1971 war is one of the shortest and swiftest victories ever recorded in the history of military warfare, which started on 03 Dec 1971 and continued for 13-days (16 December 1971).
During the war it inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and captured some seventeen thousand of its troops. It suffered 471 killed and 1450 wounded in the war.
We proudly celebrate 16 December as ‘Vijay Diwas’ to mark this momentous victory. On this day in 1971, the chief of the Pakistani forces, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops had surrendered unconditionally to the allied forces consisting of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, led by General Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dhaka after their defeat in the war.The defining characteristic of the 1971 war was the coordination and cooperation achieved among the three arms of India’s Defence Forces. 3 Arms of India’s Defence shattered the morale resulting in victory of India. 14 Days War Between India and Pakistan resulted in India’s glorious victory And Liberation of Bangladesh. Every Indian patriot feels proud of this major achievement in the nation’s history.
